The installer will automatically uninstall your ArcGIS 10.1 through 10.3 License Manager and install ArcGIS 10.3.1 License Manager. Open the License Server from Start Programs ArcGIS License Manager License Server Administrator. Sep 12, 2019  The Arcgis License Manager 2019.0 is available. This update addresses several vulnerabilities in Flexera FlexNet Publisher that are exploitable prior to FlexNet Publisher 11.16.2. The ArcGIS License Manager 2019.0 uses FLEXnet Publisher 11.16.2.1. Versions of Flexera FlexNet Publisher prior to 11.16.2 are affected by multiple vulnerabilities. Starting at 10.7, there will no longer be separate licensing for apps; the portal's user types, apps, and app bundles will be licensed using a single portal license file. Licensing ArcGIS Pro and Drone2Map requires licensing your Enterprise portal's ArcGIS License Server Administrator (license manager). Previously, users were required to import a.lic file into the portal's license manager.

For customers using ArcGIS License Manager 10.3 and newer to authorize ArcGIS Pro named user licenses via a Portal for ArcGIS installation, please refer to the Configure License Manager for use with Portal for ArcGIS topic for details on authorization and configuration. Installation instructions for the License Manager software can be followed below.

Note:

You do not need to uninstall existing ArcGIS software products to install the license manager, but you do need to uninstall 10.0 or older versions of the license manager to install the latest version. Before installing ArcGIS License Manager 10.3.1, please review the System Requirements.

ArcGIS License Manager communicates through TCP/IP, which must be installed and functioning properly on your Windows license server. In addition, TCP/IP requires that either a network card, along with its drivers, or the MS Loopback Adapter be installed on your Windows machine. An Internet connection is also strongly recommended for the license authorization process. If you do not have an Internet connection on the license manager machine, you can select the email or website authorization option on the Authorization Method panel.

Upon purchasing your ArcGIS products, you will receive an email from Esri Customer Service listing the purchased products and associated authorization numbers and license counts. Follow the steps below to install, authorize, and start the license manager:

  1. Run the License Manager setup from your software download or ArcGIS installation media.
  2. Follow the instructions to install the license manager to the desired location. At the end of the installation, ArcGIS License Server Administrator appears.
  3. Complete the authorization process and start the license service. If you choose to do this step at a later time, on Windows, you can access License Server Administrator from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > License Server Administrator. On Linux, you can run License Server Administrator from the installation location using the following command: <installation_path>/arcgis/license10.3/LSAdmin.
  4. Click Authorization in the table of contents and click the Authorize Now button to launch the Software Authorization Wizard.
  5. Follow the instructions on the dialog boxes to complete the authorization process. A provisioning file (*.prvs) generated on the My Esri Portal can be used to speed up the authorization process. This file fills in all the necessary user and product authorization information in the wizard. More information on provisioning files can be found in the section Provisioning Files.
  6. Click Finish to close the wizard and return to License Server Administrator.

Authorizing licenses silently

ArcGIS 10.1-10.3.1 Licenses can be authorized on the License Manager silently with the use of a provisioning file generated from My Esri by running the following command:

softwareauthorizationLS.exe -S -VER 10.3 -LIF <path to the *prvs file>

A -verbose switch can be added to the above command to display the status of the authorization process on the command line.

On Linux, the following syntax shoud be used:

Intel 865 chipset driver windows 98

Arcgis

$ ./SoftwareAuthorizationLS -S -VER 10.3 -LIF <path to the *prvs file>

Note:

When accessing the Software Authorization Wizard through terminal services in a Linux environment, a valid display must be set. This KB article provides more information.

Authorizing licenses offline

If the machine hosting your license manager does not have access to the Internet, you can complete the authorization process in an offline mode. After launching the Software Authorization Wizard as described in step 4 above, follow these instructions:

  1. On the second dialog box of the authorization wizard, select the option Authorize at Esri's website or by email to receive your authorization file.
  2. Follow the instructions on the rest of the dialog boxes and save the authorization request file when prompted at the end. By default, this will be saved as authorize.txt.
  3. Follow the instructions on the last dialog box to send or upload the file from a machine that has email and/or Internet access.
  4. Esri Customer Service will process the request and return the response file (*.resps) that contains your licenses.
  5. Save this file to your license manager and relaunch the Software Authorization Wizard from the License Server Administrator.
  6. On the first panel, select the third option I have received an authorization file from Esri and am now ready to finish the authorization process and browse to the response file to complete your authorization.

Upgrading licenses from 10.1 through 10.3 to 10.3.1

ArcGIS License Manager 10.3.1 uses 10.1-10.3 licenses. If you have previously authorized 10.1 through 10.3 License Manager and did not deauthorize your licenses before installing ArcGIS License Manager 10.3.1, you do not need to reauthorize your ArcGIS License Manager. Follow the instructions below for upgrading your software from 10.1 through 10.3 to 10.3.1.

Upgrading License Manager software from 10.1 through 10.3 to 10.3.1

ArcGIS 10.1-10.3 licenses will operate with ArcGIS 10.3.1 and no license upgrade is required. However, any client software operating at version 10.3.1 must use a 10.3.1 License Manager. To upgrade ArcGIS 10.1 through 10.3 License Manager software to ArcGIS 10.3.1 License Manager, follow these instructions:

  1. Open the License Server from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > License Server Administrator. On Linux, you can run License Server Administrator (in the case of 10.3) from the installation location using the following command: <installation_path>/arcgis/license10.3/LSAdmin.
  2. Stop the License Service under Start/Stop License service and exit the License Server Administrator.
  3. Install the ArcGIS 10.3.1 License Manager. The installer will automatically uninstall your ArcGIS 10.1 through 10.3 License Manager and install ArcGIS 10.3.1 License Manager.
  4. Open the License Server from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > License Server Administrator. On Linux, you can run License Server Administrator from the installation location using the following command: <installation_path>/arcgis/license10.3/LSAdmin.
  5. Start the License Service under Start/Stop License service and exit the License Server Administrator. ArcGIS 10.3 License Manager is now ready for use.

Upgrading older software and licenses from 10.0 to 10.1 or newer (including 10.3.1)

Automatic license upgrade functionality introduced at ArcGIS 10.1 remains at ArcGIS 10.3.1. This allows for a much easier license upgrade process from 10.0 licenses to 10.1-10.3 licenses. Instead of deauthorizing older licenses and authorizing the latest version, users can convert their existing 10.0 licenses to 10.1-10.3 using the one-step upgrade option.

  1. Uninstall the ArcGIS 10.0 License Manager without deauthorizing your existing licenses.
  2. Install the ArcGIS 10.1 or newer License Manager.
  3. Go to the Authorization folder, click Upgrade Now, and follow the instructions to complete the upgrade process.

Your license can also be upgraded by deauthorizing your existing 10.0 license and authorizing your new 10.1-10.3 licenses.

Contacting Esri Customer Service

If for any reason you are unable to locate your authorization information, you can contact Esri Customer Service and request that it be resent.

In the United States, you can contact Esri Customer Service by calling 888-377-4575, or visit the My Esri site.

As a portal administrator or member with licensing privileges, you use the ArcGIS Enterprise portal to specify which members have access to licensed apps that aren't already included in their assigned user type. For example, you can assign add-on licenses for licensed apps such as ArcGIS Pro, Navigator for ArcGIS, AppStudio for ArcGIS Standard, Drone2Map for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Business Analyst web app, ArcGIS Community Analyst, GeoPlanner for ArcGIS, Insights for ArcGIS, and other apps sold through ArcGIS Marketplace. You can also assign add-on licenses for app bundles that were purchased separately. You can view license and user type details and configure add-on licenses for a single product at a time and multiple products at once.

Import licenses

Licenses are managed through a single .json file downloadable from My Esri. If there are any changes to your organization's licensing, you will be provided with a new .json file containing all licenses, which will overwrite the old license file. You can import the new licensing file through the portal.

  1. Verify that you are signed in as an administrator of your organization or a member with licensing privileges.
  2. At the top of the site, click Organization and click the Licenses tab.
  3. Click Import Licenses.
  4. Choose the .json license file and click Open.
  5. Click Import.

The new licensing will be reflected on your Licenses page, and you can assign licenses to members here.

Note:

When importing a new license file, any user types or app licenses in your portal will be overwritten by the new license file. For example, if you had apps in your portal that are no longer included in your new license file, these apps will be removed when the new license file is imported.

View license and user type details

The licensing page includes details about your organization's add-on licenses and user types, including compatibility tips that help you make decisions when managing licenses.

Configure add-on licenses for one product

If you want to configure add-on licenses for a particular product, complete the following workflow. You can use this workflow to assign or unassign the same product for one or more members at a time.

  1. Verify that you are signed in as an administrator of your organization or a member with licensing privileges.
  2. At the top of the site, click Organization and click the Licenses tab.
  3. Locate the add-on license you want to change. If necessary, search the licenses by name. Click Assign or Unassign.
  4. In the window that appears, find the member or members whose license you want to manage. To search the list of organization members, type the member's first or last name in the search box. To filter the list of members, click the filter options for user type, role, group, and app.
  5. If you're revoking a license, click Unassign next to each member. To revoke the specified add-on license from all assigned members that appear on the page, click Unassign on this page.

You cannot revoke ArcGIS Pro or Drone2Map for ArcGIS licenses from users who checked out a license.

  6. If you're assigning a license, click Assign next to each member. To assign the specified add-on license to all assigned members that appear on the page, click Assign on this page.

If you can't assign the license to a particular member because it's not compatible with their user type, you can update user types on the Members tab.

  7. Click Close to return to the licenses page.
    Tip:

If you make a mistake, you can click Undo before closing the window.

ArcGIS Pro only

Sometimes you may need to end a member's active ArcGIS Pro session to release an add-on license for another member to use.

  1. Verify that you are signed in as an administrator of your organization or a member with licensing privileges.
  2. At the top of the site, click Organization and click the Licenses tab.
  3. In the ArcGIS Pro section, click License activity.
  4. In the window that appears, search the members list and click the row for the member to view activity details.
  5. Click End session.

If the member has set an alias name for the workstation from within ArcGIS Pro, you can use that to help confirm the session to close. In ArcGIS Pro, the member starts receiving notifications about the session ending as the app begins to shut down. The member can have up to three simultaneous ArcGIS Pro sessions.

Configure add-on licenses for multiple products

If you want to configure add-on licenses for multiple products at once, complete the following workflow. You can use this workflow to change the add-on licenses for one member or a selected set of members.

How To Renew Arcgis License

  1. Verify that you are signed in as an administrator of your organization or a member with licensing privileges.
  2. At the top of the site, click Organization and click the Members tab.
  3. Search for the member in the list. Click the More options button in the member's row and click Manage add-on licenses.
    Tip:

To change multiple members at once, check the box next to the name of each member for whom you want to assign or unassign the same add-on licenses. You can select up to 100 members at a time. The selected set is maintained while you search and filter all the members in your organization, even across multiple pages. If necessary, click the members selected drop-down menu to review and revise your selection once you've modified your initial search or filter. Above the list of members, click Manage add-on licenses.

  4. In the window that appears, select or deselect the add-on licenses that you want to change.
    • If you selected multiple members, you can only assign add-on licenses that are compatible with all the selected members' user types. If necessary, click the members selected drop-down menu to remove any members with an incompatible user type. To review what's compatible with your organization's user types, go to the Licenses tab and click User types.
    • You cannot revoke ArcGIS Pro or Drone2Map for ArcGIS licenses for members who checked out a license.
  5. Click Save.

Release a checked out license

If a user checks out a license for use in a disconnected environment and the device using the license is lost or destroyed, you'll need to release the license using the ArcGIS Portal Directory. This frees the outstanding license and allows the user to check out a new license or use ArcGIS Pro or Drone2Map in a connected environment.

  1. Open a web browser and sign in to the ArcGIS Portal Directory as an administrator of your organization. The URL is formatted as https://portal.domain.com:7443/arcgis/portaladmin.
  2. Click Home > License > Release License.
  3. Type the user name of the user who checked out the license (for example, jcho).
  4. Click Release License.

Considerations for managing licenses

Upgrade Arcgis License Manager 10.6.1

  • If an app is included with a member's assigned user type, you don't need to assign the member an add-on license for that app. For example, a member assigned a GIS Professional user type already has a license for ArcGIS Pro, so you don't need to assign ArcGIS Pro to that member as an add-on license. If you're not sure what apps a member can already access, view their profile to see the licenses included with their user type and any assigned add-on licenses. (Go to the Organization page, and click the Members tab. Find the member whose profile you want to view, click the More options button , and click View profile.)
  • Only administrators of organizations that have been provisioned for apps can use this functionality. A custom administrative role must include the privilege to manage licenses for members to use this functionality.
  • Each product has a corresponding card on the licenses page that shows the number of add-on licenses available to assign and compatible user types.
  • It is possible for your organization to exceed the number of licenses available, resulting in a negative number available. This can happen if you assign licenses to your members but are later entitled to fewer licenses, such as if you make changes to your maintenance agreement or you are using trial licenses. Upon the expiration of any license in your organization, you must revoke the expired license so your organization's members are only assigned valid licenses. Members with an expired user type will not be able to sign in. Members with an expired add-on license will not be able to use the license.
