Welcome to Skype Community forum!

You can still install Skype in Windows XP, however, the new version requires for you to use SP3 and Internet Explorer version 8 and higher.

If you're using a lower version of Internet Explorer and service pack, you will not be able to install Skype. So please make sure you meet the system requirements. For your reference, please visit: What are the system requirements for Skype?.

I have XP SP3 but cannot update to IE 8 because, it seems that my existing IE is too a low revision. I think it is vers 6

Any suggestions please?

Regardless if you have SP3 as long as your Internet Explorer is out of date, you will not be able to download or use Skype properly on your device.

Please make sure you meet the system requirements for you to continue using Skype.

i have windows xp sp3 and no matter which version i try it redirects me to this site to dl the same file that doesn't work?

I have that version installed and I have Explorer 8.0.6001.18702IC installed, but not open and Skype still cries that 'Sorry, we couldn't connect to Skype'. It didn't even get to the point where my MS Firewall would ask me to unblock it (I deleted the Skype option according to Skype's instructions).

This is very annoying, since Skype worked the last time I used it (a couple of months ago) and I need to make this call desperately.
